So my daughter has a 165k 2002 jeep grand cherokee with a 4.7 and minimal rust. And a torque converter clutch circuit malfunction.

Of course she waited to get her emissions test so we are running on a 30 day tag.

From what I have read online and from what i have heard for some tranny shops, they recommend replacing the torque converter and transmission shift solenoid. I have ordered both.

The solenoid showed up today. They say to upgrade the black connector with the white but you have to replace the cam plate. The white one was available but the cam plate is a few week out. The dont make new black ones just remanufactured ones.

One other possible cause of this code is the accumulator spring which is inside the pump. The you tube transmission specialists, Gary Ferraro "Andy's 545rfe" does a good job, I think, of tearing down the transmission. For my needs, everything looks straight forward. although the pump scares the hell out of me.

The reman solenoid was $140 shipped. Torque converter was 170 shipped. A reman valve body with new white solenoid is $303 plus shipping est. arrival mid august. A reman pump with the accumulator spring replaced $186 not sure of the lead time.

I do have a spare 545rfe that is said to be good out of a wreck i purchased. I thought about just doing a swap The trans shop i talked to said no matter what change the converter and swears that is the reason for the code.

Im looking for any input. Has anyone done this before? Worst case i'll document my endeavors here, lol

I had the next step code of P1740 in my 46RE. The amount of friction sludge from the disks plies up in the channel for the lock up of the TC. So the solenoid then has problems with the TC and miss shifts. Since you already have the other parts and are 3/4 of the way on a full rebuilt, might as well get the kit also and just do it once..
