Is there an easy way to change 5x4 front discs to 5x4 1/2"? what needs to be changed? spindles? control arms? everything? nothing?

I think you need the upper control arm, ball joint, spindle and rotors and calipers of course.

If you are going to swap them all out, I'd be interested in your small bolt pattern setup!
 
You can change over to 73+ a-body uper control arms and spindles. Check the member classified, ebay, etc. Or there are many kits available from SSBC, wilwood, right stuff, just to name a few.... There is a ton of info in the brake forum...
