I recently bought a used 64 speedometer cable from Rat Rod Al for my 64 LA 904. It looked like your typical 60 year old cable - the cable itself dirty and rusty; the plug that goes in the transmission in great shape as was the fitting that screws onto the speedometer.
I had decided to replace my never used Speedhut gauges with a Dakota Digital setup. The DD electronic speedometer uses a signal generator that the speedometer cable threats to it. So I shipped the cable down to Texas Industrial Electronics to have them remove the old speedometer fitting and add the fitting for the signal generator. He recommended replacing the outer cable as it was in poor shape. So basically I received a brand new early A modified speedometer cable. I can highly recommend this company for rebuilding your early A cable
