hi guys. im hoping to swap my 62 lancers 170 slant 6 for a sb v8. engine swaps are new to me. i am however handy and feel i could handle the job. i however do not have much of a knowledge base as to engine and tranny set ups for this car. i believe i have a a904 torqueflite trans. is there a sb v8 like a 318 or 360 that will bolt up to it? is the 904 worth keeping for daily driver or is the trans crap as i have read? im basically going for a cool ratrod street rod kinda deal. maybe one day hoping to upgrade it to a street/ strip and do some racing.

any info on where to start would be appreciated. ide like a 360 in it ideally. well **** ide like a 440 in it ideally haha but i dont think that would fit. like i said anyone done this before? any info on what parts / engine/trans to start keeping an eye out for would be great.

thanks guys - andrew

You should probably post in the Early A-Bodies forum -- they would be likely to know the answers.

I can say that yes, a small block V8 should fit, I just don't know what the motor mount situation is. That heater box might be an issue, too. You'd need a V8 transmission. A 904 is fine, though, at least up to 400hp with the right internals.

so a slant six 904 and a 904 off a v8 engine are different because they have different guts? i appologise for my ignorance here. new to this. trying to suck it all up.
