So as the title suggests I'm having an issue where the Fuel & Temp gauge and the turn signals work while the car is in accessory mode but once the car is running they cease to work.

Some background: The previous owner had disconnected the cigarette lighter and kind of shoved the wire that it would be connected to into clip of the heater blower switch where the black wire is (circled in red below) which caused the gauges and turn signals to stay on whether the key was in the ignition or not.

Since this setup would cause the battery to drain I decided to start poking around and discovered the out of place wire, unplugged it and ran it back to the cigarette lighter where it belongs. The lighter works now, woohoo!

This is where the problems begin. I turn the car on and now the gauges and turn signals no longer work, I turn it off and turn the key one click right into ACC mode and everything works fine.

The fuse block seems to be in order despite being messy and the wires are in pretty good shape. Where should I start with this one?

Try wiggling the key around while it's running. As in "almost" turning the ignition off, but not quite.

Sounds more like a bum ignition switch. One where the ACC power only makes me contact when it feels like it.
