64,65 vs 66 - 71 valve cover difference

-
hi, you have a 66 318, they won't fit!! 66-318 are a poly head and covers are different. any 273, 67 up 318, 340, 360 are the same. you didn't state which 66 motor you have.

Please describe / explain the difference between a 64-65 valve cover, vs a 66-71, I read where they will not interchange, and I have been having issues with this set I have, maybe they are 64 ? on my 66.
thanks

LA motors in 64/65 used valve covers with 2 stovepipes - one for the push-on oil fill cap and the other for the push-on cap that had the PVC valve. The 66 and I think through 69 or so (possibly through 71 - not up to speed on 70/71's), one valve cover still had the stovepipe for the oil cap but the other valve cover now had a hole in it and used the rubber grommet with the PVC. They should all physically bolt on a LA head up through at least around 80 or so. I am putting together a 70 340 to go in my 65 Dart wagon and will dress it out to look like a 65 HiPo 273 including correct dynamite looking 64/65 Commando valve covers (thanks to Leanna )
