New member here, thanks for having me, Mopar owner, hobby restorer. Working on a 1964 dodge dart. Do I need the car running to make the power convertible top work ? Thanks, 1st convertible.
My '63 is the same so yours should be also.
The top is operated thru a pump pumping fluid to 2 rams which raise or lower the top frame.
The pump is electronically operated so you will need power to the top switch to make the pump work.
The car engine doesn't need to be running.
There is a section for convertibles in the forum, so that would be a good place to start with questions peculiar to convertibles. Probably more chance of a knowledgeable answer.
Good luck with your car

Per my 65 FSM the top switch wiring is connected directly to the hot side of the ammeter, so it doesn't matter whether the ignition switch is on or off or the car running or not. I would recommend locating and buying a FSM (Factory Shop Manual) for your year car. I guess a Haynes "might" do in a pinch but is no substitute for the correct info.
