Will my 64 slant six push button auto bolt up to a 66 slant six? I'm thinking of building a bracket racer and want to keep the pusbutton? Are push button trannies any good for mild racing? Or go newer style tranny with floor shift? Was selling car but looking at options for a low buck racer....Aready have complete motor, four barrel and intake with headers and exhuast...The car's a 64 Plymouth Valaint 2dr post...

Yes the pushbutton trans will fit the 66 engine. It will fit all slant six engines. On a 68 and newer slant, a 68 up flexplate, and a adapter bushing in the end of the crank is required. I have the push button shifter on a console between the bucket seats in my 66 Cuda. I also have one in my 65 Valiant. One thing to consider, for a race car. The location of the PB's in a 64 Valiant make it difficult to shift, with a manual valve body, while seat belted in.

Yes the 64 trans will bolt to the 66 engine. not sure of what upgrades can be done to the transmission. You may want to consider putting a 68-76 225 crank in it and using the later 904 trans because you can get off the shelf torque converters for it and not have to pay for custom built ones. Hey also there is a realy good book out there on chrysler engine interchanges title is How to Build High Performance Chrysler Engines by Frank Adkins ISBN:1-884089-54-2 should be about 20 usd

Thanks, planning on picking up a later model tranny anyway. I just like the push button setup it's a little different. Can you modify the pusbuttons to the later tranny? Either way aleast I don't have to modify the colume for floor shifter..

Imperial Services has a conversion "service" to convert a PB shifter to a late trans. Be sitting down when you look at the price, and then it takes several months to get the part back.

If you are getting a later trans, be aware, if the trans is 68 or later, it will not fit the 66 engine/crank.

Brian, you don't have do a lot to the trans, to make it live, and the mods are easy. My 170 motor makes 358 ft lbs torque at 2900 rpm. And I am using a 65 trans.
Also a 64 trans with a 66 engine does not require a custom converter.
A 68 or newer trans, with a 67 or earlier engine does require a custom converter
