I have the opportunity to purchase a 65 Barracuda 273 hipo 4spd car.

I’ve been just doing some general research and was interested in figuring out what option for the car included the fancy 4spd trim with the shift pattern displayed vs just the rubber and chrome ring?

Ive seen pictures of both setups. One of these is from an older advertisement brochure comparing the barracuda to the mustang.

My thought initially went to 4spd vs 3spd. But I see cars online now that says original 4spd barracuda and has the basic rubber and chrome trim.

Or did it change based on the base 273 2bbl vs the commando 4bbl?

The lower picture with shift pattern is correct for '65 4 speed Commando cars. Note that the shift pattern only appears on the plate, not on the shift ball, it is blank.

It’s good to know that the ball doesn’t feature the shift pattern just the floor plate.

My 65 Barracuda 273 2bbl car came with that Shifter plate factory as well, not just the Commando cars. But correct, no pattern on the ball.

Makes me wonder why the car in the brochure image I included didn’t have the special floor plate display.
The photo on the right looks like a Mustang or something. The shifter is mounted on the center of the hump like a top loader. Mopar shifters were all mounted on the drivers side of the hump and transmission. My bet is those aren't Mopar brochure photos. Mine came from the Hamtramck site, Dealership Data Books section. The 1970 Hamtramck Registry - 1965 Plymouth Dealership Data Book - Barracuda

The one on the left is the barracuda. It was a brochure comparing the 65 to the mustang.
