I have two problems:
1. The turn signal switch doesn't self cancel
2. The housing that the turn signal stalk is in can rotate around the steering column
I took off the steering wheel and found the turn signal switch was broken. I've read about removing the wires at the bottom of the steering column, but I don't think I need to do that. My local auto parts has just the upper white plastic piece, but I can't get the old one off.
Red arrow - broken pieces
Yellow arrow - metal post
Green arrows - screws
Is there a trick to removing the upper white plastic piece from the metal post (see the yellow arrow)?
Once I get it off, I'd like to carefully lift out the rest of the switch, let it dangle, and see if tightening up the screws (green arrows) will stop the housing from moving around the steering column.
I have the 1965 Plymouth Service Manual, but the steering info is really limited.
I've had some great advice from this site. Thanks to all.
