piecing the little sucker back from the dead, changed motors, put original tranny and convertor back in, (65 engine). goes forward , no reverse. checked new filter to be correct (2 holes), shifter movers all gears, yep have FSM, when i back off nut and screw in the screw, it would run out pretty much by time it would seat. what i need to know: where should the lever be ( all the way up or down?) when i start to adjustt screw,?? when i first opened it up and looked, the band was somewhat loose against the drum. but i didn't remember where the lever was. hoping to get it pretty much adjusted and if doesn't work then, will figure on having to eventually get it rebuilt, ) as long as you don't have to back up, reverse is probably just a luxury!!???) LOL
as y can tell i'm no tranny mechanic, just a brain surgeon! LOL

That lever should have a good amount of play when adjusted properly.
If you have good low/1st gear engagement the band adjustment is not your problem.

Do you have engine brakeing in man 1st? if no engine braking in low good chance the low/rev band is broken or other issues with low/rev servo.

i havn't started it since i pulled the pan off and tried to adjust, ( been plenty cold and snowy here and gargae is open shed). but before i had all forward gears but no reverse. i picked up another cable trans from friend but he has no knowledge of it, but that tranny is slated to go in my 63 dart when i find engine for it. i will offer my sale my feather duster when the weather improves and probably will just have to have it rebuilt. thanks for the points.
