Getting motivated to put my 65 back on the street. Years ago I was running 14” small bolt Centerlines with Hooker 5208’s. I don’t remember having much issue, but looking to do a 15”x3 1/2” rim this time. Anyone have experience with tire combinations that I can plan on for this?

Asking because I ran across a comment from another guy about him having hassles with fenderwells and whatever tire he used. Thanks for the replies.

I never thought about tire clearance on the headers? I did learn the hard way about tire clearance on the front wheel well lip. I bought a pair of "mint" fenders for my 68 at Carlisle for $700 back around 2005. Guy said they came off a drag car that was going to a glass flip front end. He trimmed the lower lip off for clearance.

I remember waaaaay back in the day, a guy with an Early A Dart at Greer Dragway ran 15" pizza cutter Centerlines with 5/60- 15's, which were basically VW Bettle tires. He had a 340 with fenderwell headers and it seemed to be fine. Maybe see if you can find a modern tire the same height as that and see what you think.

Funny just posted these on a thread about drag tire plies. Although I don't have experience with that header number my 2 inch are about as close to the inner frame rail as can be. I've got 26 inch od tires on 3.5 wides and there are marks from tire rub. I'd heard 25 or 26 were about the max diameter you could run. 66 Valiant.
