I installed a 66 steering column with auto shifter in a 63 Valiant and i don't have the shifter mechanisms/linkages to the transmission and I am not sure what should be there. Does anyone have a 66 service manual or know where there is on online where I can see what parts I am missing. Car now has a 318 auto in it, but no way to shift it, yet.
Thanks

Its pretty much like the later model cars. From the engine side of the column it uses a link to a z bar and then a link to the trans with the appropriate lever on the trans. There is a frame bracket and a trans bracket that the z bar pivots on. I have the parts and can send you pics if you'd like. Sorry but I cannot sell them as they belong to another project.

Wow, the parts inthe pic look great. Are they available now in a kit or somehting?

No kit available....I bought these for the Daytona and found I already had them in a box...this is an extra set that I need to sell....I don't think this will fit an "A" body...I just posted the picture for you to see what you were trying to find.

If anyone needs this set, I'm asking $75 + mailing

Do you have a 1966 tranny, or the pushbutton tranny in the car?

If you have the 1963 pushbutton trans you need a 1965 cable operated steering column,I have one in the shed.

Wow!! Sorry I just re-read your 1st post----
you have a 63 valiant-- with a 66 column in it & now a v-8---
You are trying to convert a pushbutton car to a gear selected car-- you've also added a v-8 which will complicate the situation even more.

The 63 uses a rod that passes through the firewall-- these cars had push button tranny's
completely different.
The assembly from a 1966 might work on a 1963 firewall-- either way you are going to have to trial fit & modify any linkage stuff -- what your are doing was not made in 1963. i emailed you with more info-- good Luck. Lawrence

The column for a 1965 will operate the pushbutton 1963 trans, the kickdown is a diffrent story that will need to be modified in 1966 they switched to linkage for shifting and the kickdown.I have on my waggin a 1965 cable shift auto on the column and the cable shifted trans

waggin-- he states he now has a 318 with auto tranny-- I do not think the slant 6 push button trans is still there. That would be some trick

VALIANT 63 could you clarify -- just what the heck you have done & what you are trying to accomplish? thanks

There were v-8 pushbutton tranny's also, I have one in my 64 dart convertable. Talked to rob on the phone he has installed an 1989 318 and 904 trans so it will need linkage rather than cable shift. This should clear up what he need's

floor shifter will be easiest.

the easiest way to do the kick down wil be a cable,,,lokar offers them,,thru summit,,,also a company in the mopar magazines offers cables for kick down,,,you can also get a kick down cable from a junk yard out of a late 1980s chrysler car,,dodge van, dodge ram and early dakotas,, and you may have to make a bracket,,,DO NOT RUN THAT TRANY with out a kick down hooked up,,,you will burn it up in less then a mile,,,,

im sure the 66 column linkage can be made to work with out a lot of hoopla,,,,if your inventive you can geta cable made to go from the column to the tranny to shift it,,, a company called morse makes custom cables,,,

If you still need the '66 A-body 273/904 column shift linkage, let me know and I'll check my stock for you.
Thanks, Mark

Sorry I don't get back to here as often as I should.
CudaMark... Yes, i still need the parts.
Waggin... No,it is not a push button trans. It's an a999 trans that was attached to the 318.
Vdart... it's an '89 trans.
Caveman.. It is neither a pb tran or a 66 trans. Also, I don't want a floor shifter in my way.
A833wing... more than I can afford to pay.
fstfish66... Umm, i don't keed a kickdown at all. It's already on the engine and trans combo.
SSVDP... Thank you for the wonderful pic. That is what I needed to see what part I need.

I'll make you a deal-- pm me your address I'll send you the parts from the 66 slant car that I sent pictures of: Lawrence---

Here's the set I have off a '66 Barracuda.....You'll have to drill a couple of holes to mount the frame bracket on a '65 and older model.
Thanks, Mark
