I have been lurking on here watching I believe its flyboy's dart project, very nice job by the way. I never knew this site existed but found it from BIGBLOCKDART.COM links to the dart build and have been watching it here.

I thought I would share my little 67 Dart build up. I am a total novice and am learning every step of the way. I know the E bodies a little better and have been in the hobby for years but am new to a lot of this.

I love the darts and A body barracudas and hope to build a HEMI project in a A body cuda or dart soon. Hope you like the car, and I hope i Dont upset the purists!

I am still working on this off and on. Its kind of slow as I did the paint this past summer/ fall. I am basically a poor broke boy and cant afford all the nice after market disc brakes and high dollar parts. so as I stumble across items, I start them and learn and so on. It started as a /6 three on the tree post car. My boss owned it since new, an old Sergeant I worked for.
I started it as a driver and was going to just slap that ole max wedge scoop on it and drive it. Then I decided that it needed some color and well, you know how that goes. Then I was thinking Big block dart. So then I find a killer deal a buddy wants to sell this 340-6 pack motor all built and done ballanced with original 6 pack set up for 4K, the only high dollar item on my list. It would have cost me more to build my 72 440 core motor. I had a 4 speed A body trans and a small block bell housing, so I was off to the races.
I did most of the paint and the engine bay this summer/fall. I still have the mirrors and a few small items to go. I am no pro but once againc ant afford to hire it out and have built my shop for this stuff.
Then a guy called me this fall and said I have a FREE 4 door parts dart/1970 in Grass valley, several hours away. I would not have grabbed it but it had a 32 SG. 83/4 A body rear end in it, no disc brakes. on it. One issue, it had to picked up the folowing day. So off i wnet and here it is, now out and stripped down to bare metal. I am adding big rear drum brakes and rebuilding it as I learn.
Then this past week, I find a 74 duster gold duster and it has disc brakes. I get a great deal on it. Now its sits here and I am learning all the aspects of this change. So here is the link if interested. http://www.smithvalleymopars.com/67_hemi_dart.htm

I am now trying to get my hands on another freebe a A-100 van that a guy wants taken to the salvage yard. I am hoping for the front seats in bucket form and SS type seats and brackets for that very cool look. Its getting a huge B body pistol grip shifter as I am partial to that look. Just hope I dont hit my knuckles on the dash.
Here some pics.

I am looking at tires and rims as I am still searching for the right look. I have some finished 14 inch 500s here but wanted 15s and the fat look in the back. I am on this project until its done and my 70 Cuda vert which was finished the same basic way is angry and upset at me as I have basically left her for the dart.
By the way I am kind of thinking of another hood option now and looking for a second hood for a change when I fell like it from week to week. I have the dual scoops and a dual snorkle scoop both original and thought maybe I could do that look fromt time to time.

looks good nice car. Good luck with the rest of the car and keep posting pics. Justin

Looking good lawfish! That scoop looks good on the dart.

I find it hard to believe that you're a "poor broke boy" by the looks of that garage though, you're no trying to pull the wool over our eyes, are ya? lol!

Oh to be young and broke again. Although I dont seem to recall my old "shop" having that much room (or a concrete floor - lol). Love the color, looks like she's comin along nicely. Thx for pix,and welcome aboard!

Well, I feel like a poor broke boy but your right. Maybe I am just an "IN DEBT" boy:toothy9:.

Well the rear shop is a little over 47x47 and has a lift and a paint booth inside of it with its own internal garage door. This is attached to the original shop which is more of a garage these days and is 34x28 deep and is home to the Cuda vert and any other finished cars.

So ya I am not working in the dirt or snow like I did as a kid. However I built every square inch of these buildings, which include a 650 sq ft office atatched to the original garage/shop so I have over 4000 sq ft of buildings dedicated to hot rods and am out of room. I poured the mud, framed, sheered sidded and did eveythign here for 40K. And in this high dollar real estate market where I live a contractor wanted 118K for the building alone!!!
So its cheaper when you do it your self by far and this was three years ago when lumber was double. I just built a 1200 sq ft 16 high pole barn on my Idaho property for under 15K but its still in the dirt and due to my vacation time frame paid 4K in help to get it up in 15 days. Lumber is very cheap right now.

Here are a couple of pics as I know guys like shops.

Aha! And property in Idaho too! BTW, not many "novices" have a lift in thier workspace either. Just kidding Lawfish.

You have a very nice shop and kudos for you for building it all yourself. Job well done.

ramcharger, believe me, if you were here wrenchign with me, you would be scratchign your head. I actually am no fan of the wrenching aspect. I spent most of my career as a Detective tying 60 plus pages a day on reports and have had three carpal tunel operations on both hands. So my hands tend to loose their grip on small tools. This si why I went with the body work and painting portion. I like painting and will soon learn to airbrush as well.

The wrench part is only out of desperation. Building is another love and comes in handy.
I have a thing about learning something new every day, it keeps you alive.

thanks for the notes. I also tend to find a LOT of cars and parts. so if your looking for items, let me knwo I can always try and find stuff or point people in the right direction. I actually need to post a couple of cars for sale on here as I see you guys have a cars for sale area.

Dave,

Sorry to hear of your difficulties. A disability like that can truly be debilitating to car guys like us.

I'll let you know if I'm looking for something. It's always nice to have another parts contact! Thanks.

Wow! Something similar to mine! Great score on the 340 / 6 pack! My `68 Barracuda is also a small block / 6 Bbl. / 4 Spd. car. And I think even the same, if not VERY close, color. Mine is LL1 Surf Turquoise.

I also like the look of the old Max Wedge hood scoop. Just when I thought there's no more "fresh" combinations left! But I have a suggestion on that scoop. You might want to consider shorting it about 6" - 8". This way it "fits" the smaller A body hood.

And as for the shop, I wish I lived near you. You'd have a new shop buddy coming to visit with a case of cold Corona's in his hands.

Welcome aboard and Happy Holidays!

BTW: I'm scheduled for carpul tunnel surgery this coming Jan. 18th. on my left hand (no wrenchin or guitar playin for a while.....) and I had the right hand done 9 yrs. ago. I know the feeling, or more correctly, lack of....

FASTBACK340----- MUST HAVE MORE PICS of that car please. Lets see em, I know you have more. What a great project.
Are using the 6 paCK Air cleaner? An original or re-pop. Mine is original but I am informed that I am goig to have to put a notch in the hood or the air cleaner and I am thinking the hood at this point or a non original 6 pack air cleaner top.

Give me the dirt on your car, what elese and more pics. You color is very close, I believe Q5 is a tad lighter.
