67 imperial dash and controls

I recently bought a 67 imperial and this thing is a luxurious lead sled! I can't help but wonder what the things sticking off the dash is though? I is a black piece of metal that stick up about 6 inches with a knob on the back and towards the windshield is a glass lens? looks factory. Also on the dash in front of it is a dial that says late and early? Somebody please help me figure all this out. At the moment I wouldnt doubt if this car had a flux capacitor stuck in it somewhere with all the electronics.

I think the early/late knob is a system that turns the headlights on automatically when it gets dark, and the thing on top of the dash is the sensor for the system that automatically turns the hi-beams on/off.

Thanks for the info Also before I scrap this car is there anything other than the 440 727 and 8 3/4 that are worth money on this thing?
