I started with an old 1972 440 block that I have had for over 20 years. I had it shot cleaned, bored .055 over, installed aluminum main caps, had it line bored, decked so the pistons are at zero deck heighth. It will be going together with new Ross flat tops, CAT H beam rods, stock crank(Std./std), 67 915 heads worked, Comp. Cams .650 cam, balanced, 9" TCI converter, 4.88 Dana. Hope to run 6.70's in the 1/8th.??? Old engine ran a 7.05, with TRW's and same heads.

main studs? head studs? block filled? I have similar combo with a few exceptions and Believe my 71 dart would go 9.80s I currently dont use the transbrake or line lock and footbrake the car to 1700 rpm and run 10.51 spinning, 4.30 gear I think this animal will blow the pinion right out of the case if I were to launch at say 3500 or so.

I can't remember but it used to turn in the 1/4,as far as rpm's. I have had the 4.88's in there since I had the Dana installed in the early to mid 80's.

! run the .660 comp cam roller with 1.6 sharp rollers, main studs and aluminum caps are reccomended. dont like the tall water tubes between the cylinders .broke thru a few at 0.60 over .im going stroker 230 block 400 with 1/2 fill, billet caps. main studs, girdle, head studs, indestructible and when stroked will our run a 440 even if the 440s stroked as the block is shorter meaning less internal mass weight. I dont know your combo but mine goes 10.51s at 131 footbraking it and launching at 1700 rpm, I have a line lock and a transbrake but I run a non braced 8 3/4 rear. this is the 440 engine in a 71 dart, would love to launch at 4000 and see what happens haha as I know the car will go 10.20s or beter but I dont want to break the 742 case pinion or leave my rear suspension behind lol

It sounds as though your 8 3/4 is the only weak link. I haven't ran my combo this year. I don't have the money to race this year, so I leaving the engine apart for now. It does have aluminum main caps.
