68 Barracuda Notchback

Weekend projects.
Removing Paint from plastic dash. Super Clean really does work great.

Getting ready for a BBP swap on the 8-3/4. Just need to get the axels ordered from Dr. Diff.

Back from the blaster today. Car cleaned up really nice, no surprises. Time for some 60grit DA and off to epoxy.

Weekend progress.
Its a little overwhelming scuffing every square inch of the car to get it ready for epoxy.

Rust in the tire well was a little worse then expected after blasting. The new piece fits really nice. Also new AMD tank bracket.

Just a little update.
Started the teardown and trying to get the smell out from sitting in a barn for 16 years..
Finding a little more history on the car as we go.
From what i know the car was in Colorado most of its life. Found a pen in the console from Yuma so not sure if that is were in Colorado it lived.

I am enjoying your thread a lot. You do good work.
I had to laugh at this picture. My first thought was that all you needed was some steaks and some lighter fluid.

I might have missed it, but what color are you thinking of. I really like that Seafoam Green.
Are you doing the body work, primer, block sanding and paint?

Keeping the same LL1 Surf Turqoise Metallic. Wife even convinced me to keep the stock white over black interior.
I'm trying to do as much metal work as i can. I have a shop that is going to shoot epoxy after i prep and then do the final body work and paint when i am ready.. I am fighting the weather here in MN, trying to get things done before the cold and snow sets in.

I have seen the turquoise with the white interior. It is STUNNING. Your wife has good taste. Listen to her.

Well the body shop i thought was going to epoxy the car has screwed me over. They now say they don't have the time to get it done for a few more weeks. I have been told, if you don't get the car sealed up within a few days of blasting i may need to start over. Any suggestions on this. Not sure i want to treat the whole car with fast etch to try and protect it.

get some 2k epoxy and paint it with a small roller. yes it won't be as smooth as when sprayed but you won't have to deal with breathing the fumes and getting overspray on anything nearby. corners etc just use a small brush. better to get it covered before it flash rusts. yes you'll have a bit more sanding to do before bodywork continues but that's a small price to pay so stop it rusting now.
neil.

If you decide to run subframe connectors, I'd like to suggest you re route your parking brake cable inboard of the connector. This is how I have done this on both of the A body notchback cudas I have. Pix are of my 69.

You will have to drill holes inboard of the LH front framerail and between it and the LH torsion bar mount. I have seen a lot of subframe connectors done where they cut a long slot in the connector itself to feed the cable through which kind of defeats the purpose of the connector. Mine are made with 2×3 boxed steel.

Well, when you go to the body shop to get your parts to take them somewhere else it gets there attention. I guess they do have time to get my stuff done. First set of parts in epoxy.

Getting brackets welded up to mount on the rotisserie. A little overkill but better safe then sorry.

Car finally on the rotisserie. Lots of blasting media to get out, but looks good.

More parts back from epoxy.

Also got the dash back from powder coat. Turned out great. Time to start putting that back together now that we have snow and cold here. Thanks Cudachick for the powder color recommendation.

well another setback with the body shop again. Was charged $1900 for just the work done on all the panels this far. I was OK with paying for his time, but he charged me over $800 for the epoxy. Said he used almost a gallon and a half, i said BS. The SPI primer they use is only $300 for a gallon of primer and a gallon of activator. He was surprised when i know the cost of the materials. also, after looking a some of the panels he missed some spots. Under one of the fended had a huge spot missed where he had it on a stand. He just blew it off as not a big deal. Well, i hate feeling like i got screwed. Time to buy some Optiflow Roll on primer and do it my self.

On the good side, the car is clean of all blast media and back on the ground. Have a few small spots under the car i need to address that the blaster missed but not a dig deal.
Bought a center section stand at Summit for a ford 9" that i am going to modify to work with the 8-3/4. Had an old engine stand laying around that it mounts to perfectly.
