68 Dart disc/drum

I know this subject has probably been addressed before but sometimes it's a little overwhelming for a newby searching these bazillions of threads so I'll ask. 68 Dart originally 6 cyl/AT/7 1/4. When done it'll be 400 HP/AT/8 3/4. I want to go with front disc/rear drum. I want a little beefier drum than offered on the Dart. I intend to use 4.5" BP all around with 15" wheels. Do I need to find axles/backing plate/ brakes from another model and have the axles cut and resplined to get the wheel center/ bolt pattern/ brakes I want?

You can actually have a machine shop redrill your 8-3/4 axles for the larger bolt pattern along with the drums.

That would leave me with the original light duty drums. I guess I only have two options. One use a b-body rear as is. The problem with that is I would like to get the widest tire possible under the car. I don't mind a little sheet metal tweaking and I plan to move the springs inward anyway but starting with a rear end 2" wider and a spring 3" narrower I'm afraid I'd be looking for a wheel with a stupid amount of backspace. Second is to find a c-body rear for the axles and brakes and a-body rear to put it into. I've heard that some of the c-body axles from the mid 60's are tapered and unusable for this application so I guess I'll have to try and find a junk c-body from maybe 68-72. That's not easy either. Please feel free, anyone, to let me know if my line of thinking on this is on track or not. Never done it before. Thanks to all for help.
