You gotta pull the windshield, and then you can pull all the bolts along the top of the dash. Pretty straightforward after that.

The paint application has been around for a long long time
and you have it down right.
This was the way some folks dun it back in the 50'es on there trucks and tractors, I walked up to a beautiful 55 or 56 Buick painted by brush
and was amazed :glasses7:
Welcome aboard this great site
Doing some real good work and I am subscribed :happy1:

You can also cut the fender nuts from the bottom of the dash, but its really easier to pull the windshield. But if you really don't want to pull it then its possible. When you put it back in just install the new fender nuts upside down and put shorter bolts in from the bottom.

Again....its a pain but its been done

Yeah, I'm pleasantly surprised how well it's turning out. It looked like I was going to have a ton of imperfections when I put down the first couple of coats (lots of little bubbles, slightly drippy and uneven) but after drying for two days the paint has laid down nicely. I started on the 800 grit and it's already very smooth to the touch. It's a good option for a car like this that had lots of little issues all over the body because it seals it well, looks good and costs less than $100.

If anyone is interested, this is the video that had the best tutorial about it. You're limited on color choices, but the results are better than what I see come out of some body shops here for much more $$$. Just takes some patience and elbow grease :glasses7:

I recommend muting your speakers if you don't like electronic rap beatz.
How to paint your car with Rustoleum. The right way. - YouTube

That is a really good youtube tutorial. The format is great. Once again I am amazed at what awesome learning opportunities show up on youtube.

She's gettin' there. Need a wiper motor and the corner marker lamps and I'm ready for safety inspection and registration!

Very nice. Very practical. A daily driver that's easy on fuel, easy to work on, looks better to me than most of what's out there.

I have a set of 68 side markers that im going to be selling as soon as my buddy can find the other front. Id have to double check the condition.

Yeah, Tsunami was looking like it might be a little hairy for a while there. We're far enough inland not to be hit, but it's not hard to cut the Big Island off from the rest of the world.
I got a set of generic LED markers off ebay that should work, but thanks for the offer.

Ok, got more batteries for the camera.

I'll donate a wiper motor if you flip the shipping. I have a few laying around

You can put your Valiant in shows now! By the way the shade of paint you mixed shows off the body lines very well. You are going to known for the Valiant around there.

I think your dash needs a haircut :D

Thanks for the offer on the wiper motor, but I got anxious and ordered a new one online.

I spent a good 10 hours making a headliner yesterday.
Step 1. Steal the bamboo mat off the porch. Begin dismantling in separate location.

Also changed the diff gear oil. I could smell it from the moment I took off the filler plug. It felt like mud. True dinosaur juice.

A+ for creativity!

Thumbs up!! Both of them! The headliner looks great!!!

Another big thumbs-up on that headliner :thumleft:

Really digging the stance on that 4-door as well. I didn't see any mention of suspension upgrades (maybe I missed it)?

Nah, not really any mods. I cranked down the torsion bars up front and put 2.5" blocks in back. Also running itty bitty tires. 175/70-14 if I remember correctly. My cousin and I bought em on the cheap to roll the car around with and they just kinda stuck around.

Low, slow and cheap is the philosophy on this car. :D

Thanks for all the love !

When you cranked down the torsion bars, how far off the front bump-stops did you take it?

(I've also got 68 4-door and ultimately looking to bring the front down similar to yours)

I have it sitting about 1/2"-3/4" from the bumpstop. I've been rambling around on the dirt roads on my farm and I'm yet to bottom it out.
