Hello! Happy holidays and a merry Christmas to everyone.
Was looking into purchasing this 68 valiant inline 6.
Owner says it makes a tap or a thunk when turning the wheel. Any ideas of what that could be? Thank you in advance

The problem could be anything related to the front end of a 56 year old car that likely needs a complete front end rebuild at least.

Can't help but think when a man states "inline 6" in reference to the legendary Slant Six, he isn't a Mopar guy like some others here are.
Now, that doesn't make him a bad guy, just unfamiliar with these cars and maybe unfamiliar with dealing with old cars.

There's a lot of things in the front suspension and steering that can go clunk, but none of them are particularly difficult repairs or hard to source. Mostly, just look out for rust, rust, and more rust. These cars are old enough that the plastic parts can start rusting.

ac22.....you would not know it..but most of these guys can be helpful and do know there stuff when talking about old junk.......that said...sarcasm and useless responses seems to be the norm.....as msm said it can be many things...control arm bushings , tie rod , wheel berings , ball joints , gear box , ect...best thing to do is find a shop near the car ...pay the 25-50 bucks for a safety insp........then you will know........as for the engine..it is a inline 6...just at a slant...........oh being a mopar guy has has no more value then a chevy/ford guy does..........they just pay more for parts then the others......i think thats where the attitude comes from...........

Lol let the op sift thru the threads/replies to determine the level of help/sarcasm here.
Maybe try the search function? Not sure who **** under your Christmas tree, but hope it turns around and you have a Merry Christmas.
