Hi all,

First post :newb:. I have been looking at getting a 69 Cudda and shipping it to Australia. I have noticed that some of you crazy lads have been putting in Hemi's.

So questions:

1. are the Hemi crate engines any good as a package (or should I just get a crate stroker 500CI wedge) - I see that crate Hemi's range from 426, 472 and 528CI - will all of these fit in an A Body or are the big ones just too wide?

2. How much $$$ to put one in after you have the crate engine - what will I need (I know about heavy duty auto tranny & diff) - what else should I budget for?

3. I will run it at the track a few times a year but don't want to go any faster than a flat 11 for the 1/4 - I know I could do it with a small block - but I want to open the engine bay and drool.

Thoughts?

My advise is for you is to search the forums and read, read then read some more.LOL.There,s a few members that have Hemi,s,are installing Hemi,s in their cars.Lots of info and pics to see as they build.Once you,ve read a bunch and seen the work involved, you might just want a small block instead til you have the cash to spend.Your gonna need a bunch of it(cash).Good luck!

You may be very right! But a Hemi scoop would look crap with a small block.

Another quick question how wide in rim size can I go in 15 inch dia (10 inch?) and tyre width (295?).

Check out a couple of my threads I am doing this exact thing in a 69 cuda. I would not recommend the crate motor route I have heard to many problems with them. Build your own setup the way you want so you can see the whole thing being put together. All the motors are the same outside dimensions, you will need to do some mods to the car to get it to fit. HemiDenny does make a K-member so you dont have to cut the fender if you are running stock style valve covers. Lots of good info in these threads.

Hope this helps some, and yes Hemi's do cost more but the cool factor is well worth it.
