Hi all,

Glad I went back through and looked again at the suggested drive shaft amount to shorten. Looks like the 1.5" figure I had is suggested for the swap to an 8.75 rear.

I've got a /6 904 auto (going to keep that in for a while) '71 Dart Swinger. Rear in it is the 7.5 with the small bolt pattern wheel studs. Found a good 8.25 open 3.21 rear out of a Scamp and want to swap it in to get the large bolt pattern and for a bit more strength for way down the road when I pop a V8 in the car.

What I need to know though, is if you have to have the driveshaft shortened and if so, by how much?

Also, I looked on some autopart sites and they list a different rear brake hose for the '71 /6 and the '75 Scamp that the rear came out of. Do I need to buy the '75 Scamp hose or will the existing hose work for the swap?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers

Going from a 7 1/4 to an 8 1/4 it is 1.6" and going from a 7 1/4 to an 8 3/4 it is 2.26"

Thanks! I'll start calling around now and find out what it is going to cost to get it shortened and balanced. 1.6 inches it is.

Cheers

what will be the length needed to shorten if the 360/727 swap is done as well as a 7.25 to 8.25?

If you mean 904 to a 727 and a 7.25 to an 8.25 it would be 5.61";

4.01" for the difference in the trans and 1.6" difference in the rear.
