7 degree keepers instead of 10 degree...

10 degree kepeers are only necessary for very high RPM engines under very high valve spring loads. Not really needed on a street/strip car. 10 degree keepers are also used when exotic super lightweight material retainers, like titainium or aluminum are installed.

Good high quality 7 degree keepers are availible from any of the major vavletrain manufacturers. They are relatively cheap and good insurance.
 
What Ram said. You can break anything with anything given teh proper circumstances. I do upgrade when I need new retainers for any reason tho.
 
I was advised to go with 10 degree retainers and locks for the 550 lift roller cam I am going to run. I have the original 7 degree locks and retainers off my new Eddie heads if anyone wants them.
