Like the title says, looking for a '70 or '71 dual snorkel air cleaner for a 340 with vacuum operated flap. I would consider a single snorkel if in decent shape. Obviously must be for a 4bbl carb. Cash or can also do some trading with you if you are looking for parts for 70-'76 A-body. Please post pics and prices if you got something I can use. Thanks.

Vacuum flap was '72 & '73, so does originality matter or?

Alaskan TA, thanks for clarifying that for me. I was posting it for my son as he had explained it. No, originally doesn't matter, he is willing to go with a 72 or 73 if it gets him the flap. So let me amend my ad and say I am looking for a 70-73 340 dual snorkel air cleaner. Preferably one with a flap. Condition not important as long as complete. Thanks again.

I’ve got a nice one available for 135$ plus shipping. 72 with flap. PM if interested.

As far as I know all of the 340 air cleaners were single snorkel. The 70-71 had dual opening but no snorkel. The 72 had single snorkel with vac operated flapper. 73 was the same as 72 minus the inside flapper.
The dual snorkel ones were used on big blocks.

I have not really researched the 340 air cleaner years. I'm going by what I was told. Lol. I will have to go by what you guys are saying. Any pictures of the different years and styles to better educate me on them. Cause it's going on a small block and do want it to be correct for that. Year not so important I guess if it's what he is looking for. Thanks.

I will add that some 73's did have the flapper style. I think they used up what they had before the switch was made. I have an unmolested 73 that had the flapper style on it. Cant say if its original to the car but the rest of the car appears to be all original so no reason to doubt it. Generally, 73's did not use the flap but there could be exceptions.
What year car are you working on? If you just want a correct 340 air cleaner, the 72/73 style is the easiest to find and not too expensive.

It's going on a 71 valiant. Car is originally a 318 2 bbl but he is wanting to put a factory 4bbl carb and intake on it. So the 70/71 would be correct for it. But he really wants the flap style. Is the 72/73 style the same appearance wise as the 70/71 with the exception of a flap?

I have to ask. Why are you so intent on the flap? Salem aint that cold. There sure is a lot of cooler looking and better flowing cleaners out there.

70/71 is snorkel-less and is a very expensive air cleaner. They run around $250-$300 on average. If you want the flap its a 72 your looking for.

Did you look at that website? It clearly indicates the air cleaner on 70/71 A bodies is quite different (different colour and no snorkels) compared to air cleaners that came on 72 A bodies.

I did look the site over, and yes I am very informed now. I see that there is significant difference in the years. Thanks for the info H22A4.

No, Salem Oregon is not that cold, except maybe a few days a year. I didn't ask my son why he is so intent on getting one with a flap. I do know his car is really cold blooded and it takes a decent amount of time to warm up and come off of high idle. I told him to get a new electric choke carb when he buys one. He was out installing a block heater freeze plug last night in the shop. I figured he is keeping all the original parts he pulls off so if he wants to change it out he can always put it back to stock later. Lol.

Looks like lurk dog has me taken care of on it. Great shape and price. I will mark the post "found" as soon as I get the deal done. Thanks guys and gals for the great info and helping me get my son what he wants for Christmas. This forum is the best.
