Does anyone use the gaskets for the quarter extension caps?
Thinking that I can use a seam sealer in place of them
Thanks

I use them, but only because I've collected them over the years. Seam sealer will definitley work. I use the spendy stuff from Classic Industries. I've use it on fron fender replacements, and it works well for me. Stays in place while you get the right fender shims in place. Just my opinion.

I 50 years I have never seen such a gasket on an original car. they came with seam sealer on the back of the nuts to seal water out of the trunk.

@str12-340
I had (2) 71 darts - drivers then parts cars. Only one had the gaskets (hard plastic) on both front and rear extensions (pic above)
My 70 340 dart only on the front fender extensions
All of them had seam sealer on mounting nuts
Detroit Muscle Tech looks like they offer them in one of their gasket packages
I’ll try to post a pic of it here

Here it is. For the front fenders only
Wanted to talk to them last 2 years @ Carlisle but they weren’t there possibly due to covid? Maybe this year
Just wondering if anyone is using them or seam sealer in place of them and under the mounting nuts

So the car in my avatar was bought new by my father and I got it from him in 1975. When it came all apart for its first paint job there were no gaskets front or back. In 1983 I bought a 70 Swinger with 27,000 on the clock. In 1998 it came all apart for its first paint job - no gaskets front or back. The 70 GT I'm working on now was wearing its original green paint and again when disassembled no gaskets front or back. I've pulled several other 70 Dart front ends apart for parts and have never seen them.

Maybe it's a 71 thing??

Could be a 71 only or late 70, my 70 build date is 6/23/70 and it had them with both extensions front and back which are diecast but the gaskets are brittle with age, now in pieces
thank you for your input
Btw I was looking thru some old posts on primer and paint and came across your posts of your dart
nice paint job on your dart, liked that you used spray cans for the engine compartment, floor, and trunk

Thanks
Tom
