Im soon to take delivery of a 70 Duster- 318/AT w/no stripe. I've had two 1972 340 cars with the familiar stripes but I see that some 70s have a thinner/straighter dual side stripe and then some (Twisters/340s?) that use the 72 style with the engine callout on the back corner. Am I right in this assumption? Im not trying to clone either, thinking I like the thinner one that is not seen as often (except maybe on Dodge Demons?)

just my opinion... doesn't need a stripe. of course it does look very similar to my duster now.

The 1970 duster stripe that you're talking about is similar to the demon it's just a little thinner

Does that say Valiant above the 340 number? Did they offer that strip on say a 318 car? Thought I saw some offered for 70 that appeared to look like the 72s? Maybe its a vendor error? George

Thanks. Im not trying to make this car look like a factory original and definitely wont be using 340 emblems etc, but I do have some preferenses. Never loved the Valiant badge along w/the Duster, but do like that 'quieter' 70s stripe. Thinking these cars did not have the gold Pentastar on the lower/back front fender, but correct me if Im wrong!

My 70 is NOT original but has the Pentastar on the fender. When it was repainted, the Valiant badge was removed and the 71 stripes were applied.

Post #4 is the only stripe you could get on a 70 Duster. They were available on Duster 340's and Gold Duster package cars. I had a 70 Gold Duster, factory FJ5 paint with the gold stripes on sides and the tail. It was a 318 car, had the Valiant badge as above, plus a small rectangular V8 emblem near the front edge of both fenders. They came standard with a Pentastar on the lower right fender. If that Duster you're buying was a factory lime green car and has a 4 speed hump that is plum crazy and put in with sheet metal screws like a 17 year old kid would do....let me know!

Think the stripes were optional.......as my fender tag says this 70 slant 6 car came in the favorite dark green metallic EF8 w/flat black side stripes!

in : Dark Green Metallic (Dodge), Ivy Green Metallic (Plymouth), Jade Green Metallic (Chrysler & Imperial) Top Color
H51: Air Conditioning with Heater
R11: Radio Solid State AM (2 Watts)
V5X: Body Side Stripes, Black
Y05: Build to USA Specs

I ordered the car pictured in post #4 in December 1969. As for stripes they were included with the 340 option. You could get that stripe, stripe delete, or...drum roll please...vinyl side molding, just like your Granny's Valiant. The Valiant badge was dropped after 1970 model Dusters. The Penta Star on the lower right front fender soldiered on for several more years on all Mopar cars.:usflag::usflag:

Cool that you ordered your car! I knew the 340 got the strip but someone commented that it was only available on the 340, and I suspected it was optional and my slant 6 got one from the factory to verify that (fender tag). Anyone have a small gold Pentastar to sell- doesnt have to be in great shape either?
