Hi,

I am having a major problem locating the proper fitting gas cap?? My car has the 4 vent tube gas tank which means it should have the non vented cap..I had the vented cap which is to deep and spins...I purchased a new one from yearOne which states 67-76 A-Body non vented but, the cap stops are 1/2" deep and it also spins when in place? Plus the prongs are to wide?? I believe the depth between the seal and prongs should be 1/4"

Does anybody have or know the correct cap or where to purchase?
Please I am desperate!! My body guy is done and needs to paint the cap and apply the stripe piece on cap.....

Thanks, Steven

72 340 Demon...I called Vans auto today and they sell the same cap and purchase from the same supplier as Year one and that cap did not work...

Thanks for the help...

I am converting my '71 Scamp to the older style gas tank since my tank rusted and I just happened to have a new older style tank.
I didn't realize the cap threaded on differently until I read this thread.
So, I may have to change to an older filler neck also to use a vented cap. I'll check it out and get back to you. If I have to change everything I'll have my original cap I can get rid of.

I am the guy with the 71 caps for $70.00 I sold quite a few and don't know if I want to sell any more 71's. I have heard some of them I sold are going to carlisle for resale for alot more money. Two of my gas caps are already on an auction site for $150.00 each. This hurts the sale price from me for all my parts. I will post pics today of all of the different caps. 70 and back are interchangable nonvented. 71 on its own nonvented. 72-73 same but will work on later 74-75 same 76 on its own all later caps are vented 74 up will not work on 72 73 correctly. but 72 73 will work on later. Some quarters on the later cars have a deeper fuel nozzle inset and the tube makes up the difference also some slide in from the outside and some from the inside. Some use four screws and some use three. I will picture all of the different caps today if I get a chance. I also have all of the different tubes. All of the 76 cars I stripped had plastic caps if they were fold down back seat with the bent tube. I have had some with metal. But the only plastic caps I ever got were off of 76. Steve.

what a lot of guys do is change the tube to the later style so they can use the common cap
