I found this Duster over the mountains in Eastern Washington State. It started it's life as a /6 and the guy I bought it from had put a 360 with a 727 behind it but wasn't happy with the power so he went for a big block. I think he was having problems modifying the K frame, got frustrated and put it up for sale, my hat is off to him for even trying a mod like that, it's definitely more than I've ever tried. When I bought the car, no k frame, engine or trans, and it had been moved around using farm equipment and a sling around the radiator which put a pretty good wave across the top section of the core support, so I decided that the first thing I would do was remove and replace it, might as well jump in with both feet!! It has 3.55 gears (open dif) and bucket seats, shifter was moved from the column to the floor, B&M I think. My goal is a streetable 340 auto that will just barely run on pump gas. Below is pics of what it looked like the day I bought it, and what it looks like now...yikes!!! I kinda slowed way down in the winter but am ready to get wrenching. I've been reading on this site for awhile now and have learned a lot and received some good starting directions, thanks!

Thanks adiffrentcity, will try to keep pics coming, will be doing some welding practice, new welder, new welder... Core support is holding me up so gotta get it in!!

Subbed, want to see the progression!

Keep the work rolling!

I'll be stuck on the front end for awhile, one fender back from body shop, another at body shop. Drivers splash shield took a hit, pulled another one from Washougal, quite a drive for a part!!!

Decided on a 904 tranny due to less drag/hp to run, this one needs rebuilt. Swapped drive shaft for drive shaft with a FABO member going to a 727. Second fender back in the body shop to have marker light opening re-done, purchased some new parts including stainless tranny lines and 892/893 torsion bars and boots. Long way to go but the K-frame is in at least!

Here's my first mock up of core support and fender. I failed in the pic dept of how this looked with old core support, have gone out to the forums with pics asking for opinions. I'm concerned with how the lower core support sits on the frame rail, need to find if it's right before welding : ) Core support is from late model Valiant Brougham, 26 inch.

More mock up, looks like core support is close enough for proper panel alignment (I hope!) Is temporarily screwed in with self taps, will remove it, prime it with weld through primer and weld it in. Fiberglass hood needs some work in a few places but not bad.
