727 dip stick ?

While replacing the trans pan gasket I noticed the the end of the trans dip stick is just sticking out of the end of the tube into the transmission..like maybe a 1/4 inch.....is this normal?

Thanks. I was just curious I didn't pay much attention to it before. I haven't had any issues with it. Just wondering
