Hello,

I am preparing to rebuild a 727 next weekend. What are the typical tools needed to rebuild a 727 at home?

I have a valve spring compressor, C-clamps, feeler guages and snap ring pliers.

Any thing else needed?

Thanks, ROB

I'm assuming you mean special tools right?

I made a screw in tip for my dent puller so it can pull the front pump.

Dial type micrometer with a magnetic base for measuring shaft end play.

Vernier caliper for measuring clutch plates, shims, thrust washers, etc.

A dedicated clutch compressor would be nice, but as you probably already know, two C clamps will work too.

Seal driver would be helpful. Sockets work too, but that's just so un-professional! LOL!

A bushing driver set would be helpful also although most don't come with drivers large enough to do the front pump bushing or tailshaft bushing. For those I found a couple of pieces of pipe that are the same O.D. as the bushing and they work fine.

You'll also need a seal pick.

What about inside and outside micrometer to check all the clearances, and a dial indicator to check end play in the trans shaft assemblies.

I also use a trans pic and a special tool like a feeler gauge for my lip seals and reccomend you use either transmission assembly lube on the seals or Vasaline works OK too when placing the pistons back into the drums with new seals. And yes a bushing driver tool set is a must.

PS keeps rags away from the trans too! Lint is BAD :glasses6:
