i'm going to try and do this myself. how do you get the front pump out and will a standard pair of snap ring pliers work?

Take it off the stand. There are 2 threaded holes in the front pump, put bolts in and push it out. Buy a good book, for the rest. Cope transmissions.

Make sure to replace the sprag as well!

I know you've already got it but if you do one again try to find a slide hammer to yank the pump out with. Cases aren't meant to have bolts screwed into them pushing the pump out. It can trash the case if the pump is stuck. As Dave said make sure and replace the sprague rollers and springs. A roller/spring kit is cheap.

Regular snap ring pliers for what? If your referring to the snap ring holding on the tail shaft they won't work unless their really big.
