727 trans trouble shifting into 3rd gear?

So, I tore the driveline out of my '74 Cuda for a freshen up over the winter. All the trans needed was a new filter and trans fluid. It worked flawlessly before it came out. Now with everything back in and running the trans won't shift into 3rd gear unless I take my foot off the gas for a second. It shifts firmly through all the gears but hangs on to 2nd gear no matter whether I shift it manually through the gears or have it in drive.
I'm thinking maybe something in the valve body sticking but I'm looking for a second opinion before I pull the pan.

Hadn't thought about that variable. It has a Lokar kickdown cable I installed a few years back and worked great. Maybe overadjusted this time. I'll try that.
