727 Transmissions all the same

i believe there are little differences.
car long tail shaft
truck short tail shaft
then you get in to different years with different levers, clutch drum, planitary gear sets. 3 or 4 planitary sets. if you buy a used transmission that was purpose bult for racing there is a good possibility that the case and drums have been drilled. planitaries could be 2 or 5 gear.
this is just my thoughts.

All car and 2wd trucks are the same length. Only 4wd. and motor homes are shorter. There are other differences as James31 mentioned. 3 or 4 planetary gear sets, 3 or 4 clutch pack discs, 2nd gear lever ratio, valve body programming, etc. 71-73 is usually considered the best yrs to get.
