For Sale: 1973 Dodge Dart Custom 4-door sedan. Approx 230K miles. 225 /6, 904, PS, DB, A/C, light package. $3500.00 w/Magnum 500 wheels & tires (15 x 7, 205/60R-15), or $2800.00 w/Mopar steelies (14 x 4½, 185/70R-14). Car is located in Dallas, TX.

  • This car has been converted to BBP Mopar disk brakes in the front. Rear is a 7¼ inch (open), 2.76:1 also with BBP. There have been no known fender rub issues since the conversion. All front bushings have been renewed with rubber. Car is fitted with factory anti-sway bar and factory tabbed lower control arms. Rear bushings and springs (5-leaf McVeigh) have been replaced.
  • Original engine and transmission have approximately 230,000 miles on them. Never opened by present owner. Carb rebuilt by Holley, rebuilt and re-jetted (51) by present owner. Stock exhaust manifold replaced by PowerPipe SC, system has 2¼ inch pipes.
  • Interior has fresh upholstery, carpet, and headliner. Door panels are OEM with lighter “Wood Grain” replacing original walnut color. Dash is cut for DIN single height device. Radio (not installed but comes with owner’s manual) is a Panasonic CD player. Also comes with 4 speakers and 2 high frequency units installed in rear sail panel. Also comes with rear defroster and grill. Gauges and HVAC control converted to white face. Light package includes trunk light, glove box light, map light, and hood mounted turn signals. Front seat belts converted to uni-belt system.
  • Body has two-year old single stage polyurethane paint. New front floor pan on driver’s side. Passenger side floor pan repaired with a “YIELD” sign. There is a little surface rust in the trunk (little as in Texas little, not Michigan little). No bubbles in paint. Car originally had a vinyl top, removed, and roof re-skinned.
Doesn’t sound too bad, does it? So why am I selling it? The long and the short of it is that I’ve been stranded one time too many by this one and it’s time to thin the herd. There’s too much to do on this car and too little time to do it.

Known issues:
  • Electrical. I’ve isolated the gremlins to the under dash harness. There are so many cuts and splices in it that it appears like a science project of third-world engineering. Most of the work began around a PO’s attempt to have DRL. Temperature gauge and speedometer do not work. Temp gauge never worked, speedometer died about a year ago.
  • Engine. With over 230,000 miles on it, the engine leaks oil and burns a little, too. It’s tired and could stand a rebuild.
  • Transmission. Shifts fine, no slip, but it leaks.
  • A/C. Will not hold a refrigerant charge for very long. When charged, it cools well.
