73 -shaved dash pad??

I've got a wasted blue dashpad on the 73 Dart Sport. Its off now, and looking at the steel dash, Has anyone tried to just steel fill / shave the holes and such? Just smoothing it out, not installing a soft pad? Picts?

(side note: looking for R & L 2dr, interior door panel "tops" (4"x30" plasitc) in blue or any color.
