74 Dart Sport Dash ideas - custom

Anybody leave off the padded dash cap and get creative with covering/filling the holes in the metal portion of the dash? I can't weld and can't spend money to have somebody weld but wondering if anybody has custom ideas they used to leave off the padded part?

I haven't, but how about riveting some metal in there and then filling it over with bondo or fiberglass and sanding it smooth?
