Hey fellas,

I started my Mopar journey on Dad's Dart and I'm tackling brakes first. I have a leak coming from the connection of the master cylinder and booster.

I'll post a picture.

Lines look solid. I do plan on daily driving this car one day. Should I pull this thing apart and just replace what ever needs to be replaced or buy something new? Or get a replacement booster/master cylinder. If something new, do you have any recommendations on replacements?

Thanks in advanced. I'm not very experienced yet but I'm very excited for this thing. Any guidance is appreciated.

Master cylinder is leaking from the picture. Should be able to get a replacement without too much trouble. Might be able to get a rebuild kit and diy it if you feel comfortable, otherwise check out Rock Auto or your local auto parts store.

That Master Cylinder comes off real easy-just 4 nuts and the two brake lines. Like said above you can order a new one on eBay pretty cheap. That's probably all that's leaking. It will be the perfect time to bleed all the brakes too.

When you replace the master, make sure that none of the fluid got down inside of your booster.

I have never had any luck rebuilding MCs. Even the decent ones I have disassembled had more pitting in the bore than I felt comfortable with.

Exactly what I'm looking for. I'll do some research in the morning.

Ive never even bothered to try to rebuild a MC either when a new one isnt very expensive.
@BornNaked just make sure to follow the instructions enclosed with the new one for bench bleeding it before putting it on the car.

What would happen if fluid did get down in the booster?

How do I prevent that from happening?
Change the master. The fluid is leaking back past the seals in the master at the booster. This what a leaking one looks like once the master is removed. No fluid had gotten into the booster so I just cleaned it up, changed some parts an put it back into service.

I consider myself to be a really good mechanic. I can rebuild engines, transmissions, convert an automatic to a 4-speed etc. I tried to rebuild a master cylinder once. It looked pretty easy, but after I was done it did not work. I haven't tried since. New ones are too cheap.

I'll let everyone else advise you on your brakes. My concern is your messed up kickdown linkage! I can tell you need some serious help there. Take and post some pictures of the throttle bracket and whatever linkage you have on there. If that's a Holley on there, you need a 20-7 Chrysler adapter to start with. If the car has been driven like that, your transmission is probably on it's way out already. More pictures? Hope we can help!
