Up for sale is a used but in very good condition, ready to install 742 case 8.75" third member with 4.88 Mopar ring and pinion. The ring is clearly marked 4.89 (4.88), the ring is marked: "1675496 489 1 S291 4 68 MIX 2". I purchased to put on shelf but shelf is full so time to go.

The ring is dated April 1968 for anyone looking for such information. Without pulling it apart, I suspect this is a ten tooth pinion based upon the date and size gear ratio.

This is a clutch style Sure Grip (posi) unit with the large pinion and large universal joint pinion yoke for big block application cars, perfect for drag racing or going really fast from red light to red light.

I also have a 3.23 ratio Mopar ring and Pinion complete with the original shims for a 742 case in very good clean condition that I may consider selling with this setup for an additional $100.

I am asking $700 obo on the third member plus the cost of shipping.

Please shoot me a pm with interest.

Probably not a 10 tooth pinion…….You would need 48.8 (or 48.9) ring gear teeth for that ratio.

9 pinion and 44 ring gear teeth would give you a 4.8888888 ratio.

That may be where the 4.89 comes from, after rounding up.

If you do have 10 pinion teeth, the ratio would have to have a "0" in the hundredths column i.e. 4.10 or 4.50 or 3.90

69swinger340391 thanks for the info.

I forgot to turn off the "smiles in the text" when I posted this add, the ring is clearly marked 4.89
