Ring and pinion in the background is a 3.91. Hope to get that installed in a new housing and sure grip I bought before end of month.
I’m very interested in how your converter responds to the 3.91 gear. I just built a 3.91 pig for the truck and currently I think it’s too much, but I haven’t run it yet.

I think a 3.55 or 3.7x would be a better fit for my car but this 3.91 was close by and available. Bought a bunch of parts from Quick Performance and started assembly this weekend.
Fresh sure grip right out of the freezer and fitted with the ring gear!

Should help a bunch. I’d think you’ll gain about .05 to the 60’ based on my own results and should bring slip down a decent amount as well
 
Sold my buckets to a fellow FABOer. Bought a JEGS aluminum bomber seat and fab’d a mount for it. About a 35lb difference.

Im going to put it on a truck scale eventually to see where it stands. I weighed it several years ago and it was right around 3k lbs but I’ve since added weight in some areas (roll cage) and dropped weight elsewhere. So it might all be a wash.
 
I wasn’t too far off. I dropped 20lbs in 11 years! 3020lbs isn’t bad considering I’m running these heavy *** steelies on all 4 corners. With my DRs mounted I’m sure it’s in the 29xxlbs range.

Got the freshened up 3.91 back under the car. Hope to test a little on the street tomorrow weather permitting and then races on Friday.

So didn’t get a chance to test the 3.91 and now must close out this build thread as we are moving on to the next drivetrain evolution of the Valiant. But not without a proper tear down and inspection of the current motor in the name of science and to document the final results of tons of fun and 1/8 mile turbo propelled blasts.

That looks fantastic. Screw everything back together, maybe with a new set of rod bearings and sell it as a 9 second package.

I really expected to see more wear on the rod bearings because of the added load from turbo pressure but these don’t look too bad. I’m selling the whole ball of wax; from motor to driveshaft.

The bearings can take the load. Right up until it detonates. The pressure spikes from detonating will kill the hydrodynamic wedge of oil and the bearings grab the crank. Especially the top shell. Your tune up was good and what you have looks like normal wear.
 

Bearing wear looks pretty great for the power you were putting to everything! I’m sad we won’t get to see what those 3.91’s would have done for you, but definitely understand and hopefully the buyer posts some results in the future!! Looking forward to the new thread!

I’ve done my best to document all of my little turbo/magnum experiments over the years in the interest of science, fun and with the occasional bloody knuckle. I now pass the batan to you guys to continue the research. :)

Can we get any info on the new setup? Are you going to build that LC9? What trans?
