Hi everybody:

Are 8 1/4 and 8 3/4 spring perches the same? Can you swap rear ends without any alteration?
 
8 3/4 a body uses 1 7/8 wide brakes.
There is less axle sticking out on the 8 3/4 a body axle.
 
Ok I figured since you were taking a 8 1/4 apart you were going bbp. If you are then yes you can use backing plates. Since I got a disagree. I figured I would clarify.

If you go to big bolt pattern on the 8 3/4 then you would be using a 28-inch aftermarket axle an could use the 8 1/4 brakes.
 
I don't think the backing plates will work. The 8 1/4 is a c clip style and the backing plate only uses 4 studs.
