8 1/4 leaf springs

hi guys I have a 8 1/4 that I’m putting in my 70 duster it currently has a 7 1/4 now and it has 5 leaf springs but the 8 1/4 has 6 leaf springs is that normal? It came out of a 73 duster

It is if it came out of a 340/360 hi-po model. The 340 duster I once pulled an 8-1/4 and springs out of had a large front spring eye and bushing, somewhere near 2 inches in diameter, give or take. The 7-1/4 light duty springs are nearly as flimsy as the 7-1/4 rear-end they're bolted to. I really wish Chry-co had just used a Dana 44 like AMC did. It wouldn't be much of an improvement, but the 7-1/4 may as well be made out of glass.
