Since 8 3/4 A body rear axles are made of unobtanium for most of us average car guys, What can be done with the 8 1/4 rear axles for mild street vehicles? I have had a bunch basically falling in my lap as of late. I do have axles and housing from a '73 Duster, one from a '87 Diplomat police car with 2;94 Sure Grip that I paid $40 for, a set of 3:73 gears that I bought from a member here, I'm getting one from a '92 Dakota with 3:55 gears and trak lok for $100 and I bought a set of new Richmond 4;10 gears for $50.Is it worth narrowing the Dakota axle and does anyone make aftermarket axles for them with 5x4.5 bolt pattern to get rid of the 6 bolt ones? As I see it right now, I'm going to build the A body one as it's empty, and probably sacrifice the Dakota rear and keep the Diplomat one together for now and just do a gear change in the future. What are your thoughts?
