I'm converting a SBP 8 3/4 to LBP & I have a set of rear brakes off an 8 1/4 rear from a '74 Dart w/ 10x2.5" drums. I also can get a set of LBP Superior axles from a guy for a very good price brand new. My question is will the 8 1/4 brakes fit my 8 3/4 w/ the new axles? I'm told the SBP axles had different spacing to fit the smaller 10x1.75 brakes. Would this be an issue with the new axles & the 2.5" brakes or are all the aftermarket LBP axles spaced for the larger brakes(like the cars that came with the LBP)?

Thanks for your help.

The spacing is in the backing plate,so if you use the backing plate off the 8.25 you will have that size brakes.

Yes the brakes from the 74 8.25 or 7.25 rear will work. I've done this exact same swap, it's very easy. You will need all the brakes parts, to include backing plate because the offset for the wider brake shoe is in the backing plate not in the axle.

I used the backing plates and all hardware from a 7 1/4 when I put the 8 3/4 in my Dart Sport
