Is there anything worth saving from an 8 1/4 when swapping to an 8 3/4? I was told the backing plates, brake hardware and even the axles are the same. This is a truck that I am talking about, so the width of the rears are exactly the same. Also, I do as much as I am able on my own, half the fun is building, the other half driving. This rear is beyond my capabilities. I now have a 8 3/4 housing, "complete" without a center section. The brake hardware, backing plates and drums are very rusty. I will pick up a center section, gears, sure grip or locker. The 8 1/4 in the truck has good brake hardware, etc. Does anyone know a good garage near NE Pa. that can assemble this rear so I have no problems when I install it? The tranny has been in the shop for five weeks, I'm getting it back tomorrow. The down time is killing me, I want to drive it again before there is snow on the ground. Thanks, Keith.
