Yes the 29 spline axles started in 97 with the redesigned Dakota. If you want to use a 29 spline differential in your A-body 8.25 you will need to have custom axles made.

I found a '79 New Yorker with a complete 360 drivetrain.

Will the whole the rear axle assembly drop right in or does it have to be modified?

Thanks!!

Drop into what?

The axle is wider than an A-body axle and the spring perches are in the wrong place. The perches can be cut off and rewelded back on with the proper spacing and if you can find wheels with the correct back spacing you can get tires under the car.

Oops.. thanks, dgc333! You answered my question despite my lack of information. Its potentially going into a 73 Dart Sport.

I have stock 1970 style 15x7 Rally wheels that I desperately want to keep...so I suppose that I would need to have it shortened.

I haven't bought it yet, still shopping around for an axle.

Are there any relatively common/recent (Non A-Body) vehicles with a direct drop-in axle assembly? The spring perches aren't that big of a deal but modifying the length is something I would like to avoid.

Thanks again for any help at all!
