I am getting things together to rebuild an 489 case and have a question about the 4 bolts that hold the bearings onto the case.
What size are these bolts?
Has anyone used the ARP bolts or studs in this application?

I don't know if the bolts in the case are any good after all this time and it is a good opportunity to change them to a better system if possible.

The factory bolts are fine. The weak cast caps will break long before the bolts. Don't ask me how I know.

Thanks, but I guess that bolt stretch is not a factor. How many times can you reuse these bolts? I know mine was rebuilt at least one time, the bolt hex had the hex points rounded. this is why my question. I do not know how tight it was torqued to if any.

How often I can't tell you. But I have built, and rebuilt 657,741,742,985, 489 8 3/4's and have always reused the original bolts. I haven't had a problem to date in about 46 years.
