just picked this rearend up iwanna try to put in a body will this fit with different wheel backspacing. im going to move the perches in to 43 inches
heres the dimensions of the one i got it came from a 71 challenger or should i try to get another, low budget build

8 3/4" E-Body
56.500"
46.00"
12.35"

heres whats in it now and i have 1 inch wheel adaptors on it

7 1/4" A-Body

53.200"

43.02"

10.09"

Its a pretty big length difference going from an A body rear to an E body, but backspacing is the key. The e-body is 56.5, the a-body is 53.2, so the E body rear is 3.3" wider. That works out to 1.65" on each side. That means that you'll need an additional 1.65" of backspace on any rim you want to get. It will take care of those 1" spacers, but it may be too much. Do you have more than a half inch of clearance to the fender lip now? if you don't, your current rims won't fit with the e body rear.

Normally about 4.5" of backspace is the magic number for clearance on the springs, for an A-body with an E body rear the # will be ~6.15". Although since I've been looking, there are quite a few modern rims with ~6" of backspace...

I wouldn't try that one. If you want to use an 8 3/4 from a non a-body, your best bet is a 65-70 B-body rearend. Its a good swap in a Duster/Demon but might not be good in a valiant.

This my Duster with the '68 B-body rearend and some "normal" 4.125 backspacing wheels. I have the .80 MP offset shackle kit so thats why the springs look so far away.
