When converting 4-inch to 4.5-inch Axles on an A-body 8.75, What is the best scenario with the brakes, it currently has the 10inch drum! I have seen others talk that drilling the Drums for 4.5, or can I use 4.5 10-inch drums from an 8.75 truck or B-body using my current backing plate on my 71 A-body 8.75 once the Axles are changed?

Thanks, Jason

I used 10 inch brakes from a 74 dodge pickup that had an 8.75 in it. you'll need the backing plates too though, I think the offset is different for the smaller 1.75 inch shoes. I gave 50 bucks for the whole set up here locally.

Yes, you'll need the backing plates that match the drums. With your stock backing plates, the drums will hit the backing plates before they seat against the axles.

Im always looking for an excuse to visit a junkyard, I know of a 70/71 Dodge truck with an 8.75 I can get cheap!
