I need to hear from some of the guys who are differential specialists on here. I have aset of 3.73:1 gears for a Ford 8.8 rear that were to go into a Mustang project I had but sold the car. I got the gears from a friend of mine at a Ford dealer & he said the were for a late model F-150 but that all the 8.8 rears used the same ring & pinion so they would work.

My question here is is that in fact true? Can you use the ring & pinion in any 8.8, or what are the limitations to interchangeability? I want to sell off some of the Ford stuff I have lying around, but don't want to mislead anybody who buys them.

Thanks for your help.

Yes-thats one of the great things about the 8.8...all of them use the same gears...doesn't matter if it came out of a Mustang, Crown Vic, F series...whatever

edit: Even the IRS T-birds and 99-04 Cobras used the same gears in their pumpkins...the diffs can be interchanged similarly...

It's Ford man, if there is one manufactuer that lives under the 'use one thing in as many as possible' philosophy, its them. They use interchangeability to the nth degree.

Yeah, a 8.8 is a 8.8 is a 8.8. or 26.4 if your counting...
