Top dipstick is pulled from a '65 Valiant Signet convertible, middle dipstick is pulled from a '65 Barracuda Formula S, bottom dipstick is pulled from a '72 Satellite Sebring Plus.

I used to think the only thing wrong with the convertible dipstick was that the upper handle portion was missing. The wavy/springy part near the top I thought was engineered to keep the dip stick nice and tight in the tube.

Now I am beginning to see perhaps that wavy part is a defect, the dipstick should be straight all the way down, and I have been overfilling the ATF by at least a pint! As curious and nosy as I am, it took me about 10 years to notice this discrepancy.

I believe there is a difference in the tube lengths also. I've always tried to keep the stick & tube together when I've removed them. A while back, I had a stick from one engine & a tube from another. The reading wasn't correct, so I made file marks on the stick.
